Webinar Wednesday offers a great site that not only offers webinars but a lot of great resources to help you in your classroom. The professional development options are at a cost but many offer credit and the options look really impressive.  The site itself is a wealth of resources and self-guided professional development for us teachers.  Here are some highlights:

Many of you have asked for election resources.  The site offers many options for  teaching the election with videos. media files, and links to other sources.

You can also sign up for PBS Learning Media for access to videos and lessons and PBS Teacher Community to connect with other teachers and to share resources.

Finally, the site links you with resources based on some of its most popular PBS Kids shows.  One Sci Girls, a “groundbreaking new TV show and interactive website that will transform the way tween girls look at science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The empowering series has the right formula to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers with an engaging combination of actual girls exploring real-world science and math alongside successful female mentors in the field – plus an online destination unlike any other where young viewers can share their own exciting ideas and projects.”

Those of you looking to incorporate STEM into your classroom should really check this site out.

Build Your Lesson with the Discovery Education Science Techbook  7:00-8:00 pm

Join the Discovery Education Science Techbook team as we build a media-infused science lesson presentation that you can use in your classroom. Each month we will demonstrate how to create a truly engaging lesson presentation using digital resources and PowerPoint/Keynote.  At the completion of the webinar you will be able to download the finished product and use it in your classroom. A different science topic, as well as a variety of instructional strategies, will be covered each month so that at the end of the series you will have several new lessons to add to your tool box. Lessons will be built for a variety of science topics, for grade bands K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and HS. Webinar Wednesday

September12

As Brainpop puts it,”PD in your PJs!”.

A webinar is an on-line seminar that you can take from the comfort of your own home or where ever you want. Many websites run webinars on a variety of topics. Some are free and some do cost money. They have a scheduled time, but many webinars are archived so you can watch them whenever you want. During a webinar, a presenter demonstrates the topic being covered and participants can chat and ask questions as the webinar is occurring.

I “attended” one last week on Brainpop and it was great. In their “Brainpop Educators” section, there are sessions that go live every Wednesday afternoon.Like many of you, Wednesdays are hard so I went to the archives and watched the webinar on Sunday instead. I also watched football as well, so it was one of the best PD sessions I could have.

As a note, you may have to download certain programs to run the webinars on you computer. Different sites use different software. As long as it is from a well-known site, the software is safe and easy to install. Every Wednesday I will be offering suggestions for webinars on topics I think would interest you.

Today’s Brainpop webinar introduces us to all the new features of Brainpop available this year. You do need to sign up, but the Brainpop sessions are free. I have had a preview and there is a lot to see. I hope you get a chance to check it out!
